Since 1993, OpFair has been an annual career fair geared towards the students of SFU’s Faculty of Applied Sciences, which includes the Schools of Computing Science, Engineering Science, Mechatronic Systems Engineering, and our most recent addition, the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering. Our event also welcomes attendees from a variety of graduate programs such as the Professional Masters of Science in Computer Science with concentrations in Big Data, Visual Computing, and Cybersecurity.
In these unprecedented times, safety is our priority. Consequently, this year’s event will be held exclusively online via Hopin. This two-day event will showcase company spotlights, allotted exclusively for Gold and Silver sponsors, to highlight the opportunities that they have to offer as well as appearances from important members of our faculty, and of course, time to network. As a student-run event, supported by SFU’s own Faculty of Applied Sciences, our team hopes to foster an opportunistic environment that will allow attending students to make meaningful connections with potential future employers. This year we are excited to be collaborating with our Surrey Campus counterpart event, SystemsFair, to bring the best experience possible for all of SFU’s Applied Sciences students. For companies looking to hire, this means having the opportunity to meet with students with a diverse range of skills, from both the Burnaby and Surrey Applied Science programs.
Created in 2014, SystemsFair provides a venue for Surrey-based students working towards their Mechatronic Systems Engineering (MSE) or Software Systems degree to meet with company representatives one-on-one. MSE is unique in education as it combines mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineering. Like OpFair, SystemsFair strives to be a great opportunity for employers to scout student talent and gain exposure for their respective organizations every year.
